Everyone loves a good boardgame. But keeping up with the latest boardgame trends can be expensive. And sometimes when you have that urge (to play a game), you just don’t have the right game available.
Here I will list a range of games that you can play with just a pen and some paper. No fancy components, no cards, no dice, just a friend or two. These are games you can play anywhere anytime. These are games that you can play for free!
To make it easy to find a game to suit your tastes, I have divided them into several categories.
Pen and paper word games
Hangman involves one player thinking of a word while the other player tries to guess it by suggesting letters. It is a timeless classic that I used to play often as a child.
Dictionary Dash is a word guessing game where players create fake definitions while trying to guess the real one.
My Word is a is a fun word deduction game that combines elements of Mastermind and Hangman.

Tic-Tac-Toe, also called naughts and crosses, is a classic game where players aim to be the first to place three of their symbols symbols in a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) on a 3×3 grid.
Sprouts is a game involving strategic planning where players aim to be last able to perform a legal move.
Battleship is a game where players try to locate their opponent’s ships whilst hiding their own ships.
