How to make dice from cardboard

Here we show you how to make fantastic home-made giant dice. For this project we have used stick on numbers. But if you prefer the traditional look, feel free to draw dots onto the sides of the dice instead.

You can use these dice to bring an extra source of fun to any dice game, including the ones described here.

Materials needed to make dice

To make dice, You will need some thin cardboard, glue, scissors, a pen, a ruler and some numbers (optional).

How to make dice: Step-by-step

Step 1 – Draw the template

Draw the template for the dice onto cardboard using a ruler. Use the ruler to measure the size of each side of the die. For this die, each side (each square shown below) is 4 cm by 4 cm.

Step 2 – Cut out the die template

Use scissors to cut around the outside of the dice template.

Step 3 – Fold edges

After cutting out the dice template, fold along each of the lines. This may be easier if you fist score the lines using a sharp object such as scissors. To make the finished die look better, ensure that the lines remain on the inside.

Step 4 – Apply glue

Apply PVA glue to the flaps of the die.

Step 5 – Glue die shut

Fold and glue all the sides of the die together to make a cube.

Step 6 – Apply numbers

Stick the numbers onto each side of the die. Alternatively, simply draw the numbers on. Make sue that the number 6 is on the opposite side of the die to the number 1, the number 5 opposite to the number 2 and the number 4 opposite to the number 3.
